Using SiteVision in the Field

Before using SiteVision in the field make sure that:

  1. Your data preparation is complete. For automatic georeferencing in the field, if you are using data from third party software confirm that the data models have a Trimble georeferencing file (.JXL, .DC or .CAL) and are named correctly to link them together.

TIPBefore you go on-site, if you require a model that is on Trimble Connect, confirm you can access the required model by using the Trimble Connect option from the Load Model menu option. If you want to view the model while in the office, use the Place Model / Manual Placement option to view the model indoors. See Placing a Model for more information. When you reload the data in the field it will be automatically georeferenced.

  2. You have verified the GNSS Correction Source. Confirm the GNSS Correction Source to be used in the field (see Configuring the GNSS).

    • Trimble Corrections Hub

    • Local Correction Source - NTRIP

    • Local Correction Source - IBSS

  3. You have internet connectivity.

    • Your mobile device must be connected to an internet source with a 3G connection as a minimum, to receive corrections for your GNSS positions.

NOTEYou can operate SiteVision without an internet connection but with the following limitations:

    • You must have logged into SiteVision on the device previously, while online.

    • You must have already downloaded your model(s) from Trimble Connect while connected to the internet. See Loading a Model for more information on these options.

    • GNSS positioning will not be as accurate, as you will be operating with the satellite-delivered Trimble RTX correction stream or a local SBAS service. See Configuring the GNSS for more information.

NOTEMake sure you adjust the GNSS Minimum High Accuracy setting; see Working with GNSS.

  4. The SiteVision hardware is assembled and the battery is charged. Confirm that you have all hardware, including accessories, to use SiteVision in the field. Check that the SiteVision positioning system and the mobile device batteries are fully charged. See Setting up the SiteVision Hardware.

  5. You have done one of the following depending on your hardware configuration:

TIPDifferent range poles have different assumptions about the target / antenna offsets. If you are using a range pole, always use a range pole designed for use with Trimble GNSS receivers or check your range pole length by measuring it directly with a tape.
