Connecting to the Receiver and Configuring the GNSS

SiteVision support the following Trimble GNSS receivers, with tilt sensor technology:

    • Trimble R12i GNSS receiver
    • Trimble SPS986 GNSS Smart Antenna

    • To connect to a receiver and configure GNSS Settings, tap / Setup / GNSS Settings.

    1. From the Bluetooth Device dropdown, select the receiver you are using. If your receiver is not listed, you need to pair it. Tap to search for your receiver and pair it with the device.
    2. Select the Target Reference Frame to determine the coordinate output.
    3. Select the Correction Method you want use, and enter the details for your corrections source. The different correction methods are described below.
    4. Tap Save & Reconnect to confirm your GNSS Settings.
    5. You are prompted to hold the antenna up straight and wait until the GNSS indication is green .

    When the GNSS is connected and configured, you are prompted to initialize the receiver orientation.

    The NTRIP setting allows correction data to be received securely from an NTRIP Caster. The NTRIP source may be one of the following:

    • A Trimble VRS Network
    • A Trimble NTRIP Caster
    • The Trimble Internet Base Station Service (IBSS)
    • Another NTRIP compliant correction source

    To configure and use corrections via NTRIP:

    1. Enter the server parameters for the local correction source including Server URL, Server Port, Server Account, and Server Password.

    2. Tap to refresh the Mount Point list and select the appropriate data stream from the dropdown.

    3. The RTK Data Type should auto-detect but can be set manually if needed.
    4. Select the Source Reference Frame to match the reference frame of the VRS network or IBSS.
    5. If the Source Reference Frame of your NTRIP Caster is not on the list of supported reference frames, then ensure the Target Reference Frame is set to Same As Source. This will output positions without applying any transformation (the Source Reference Frame setting is effectively ignored in this case).

    NOTE – NTRIP corrections require your device to be connected to the Internet (Wi-Fi or 3G/4G broadband data).

    The Direct setting allows correction data to be received directly from any compatible RTK corrections stream.

    To configure and use corrections via Direct connection:

    1. Enter the server parameters for the local correction source including Server URL, Server Port.
    2. Select the RTK Data Type.
    3. If the Source Reference Frame of your Caster is not on the list of supported reference frames, then ensure the Target Reference Frame is set to Same As Source. This will output positions without applying any transformation (the Source Reference Frame setting is effectively ignored in this case).

    NOTE – Direct corrections require your device to be connected to the Internet (Wi-Fi or 3G/4G broadband data).

    The Radio in Receiver setting allows correction data to be received from a local radio base station via the internal receiver radio.

    NOTE – Only the internal radios of the SPS986 and R12i receivers are supported in this mode; external radios are not supported.

    To configure and use corrections via Radio:

    1. Select the Wireless Mode matching your base station.
    2. Select the RTK Data Type.
    3. Select the appropriate Radio Channel matching your base station frequency.
    4. If the Source Reference Frame of your base station is not on the list of supported reference frames, then ensure the Target Reference Frame is set to Same As Source. This will output positions without applying any transformation (the Source Reference Frame setting is effectively ignored in this case).

    TIP – If you have already configured your receiver as a Rover using Trimble Access or Trimble Siteworks software, then the Wireless Mode and Radio Channel settings should be automatically detected.

    The RTX via Satellite setting allows correction data to be received worldwide via satellite.

    NOTE – This feature requires the necessary option key enabled within your receiver.

    To configure and use corrections via RTX via Satellite, select the appropriate Target Reference Frame from the dropdown list. RTX coordinates are computed in ITRF2014 current epoch by default. SiteVision is capable of performing real time datum transformations of coordinates and will output them in the specified Target Reference Frame.

    The RTX via IP setting allows correction data to be received worldwide via the Internet.

    NOTE – This feature requires the necessary option key enabled within your receiver.

    To configure and use corrections via RTX via IP, select the appropriate Target Reference Frame from the dropdown list. RTX coordinates are computed in ITRF2014 current epoch by default. SiteVision is capable of performing real time datum transformations of coordinates and will output them in the specified Target Reference Frame.

    NOTE – RTX via IP corrections require your device to be connected to the Internet (Wi-Fi or 3G/4G broadband data).

    A VRS network or local correction source will be broadcasting coordinates in relation to a known reference frame. This is called the Source Reference Frame.

    Trimble SiteVision is capable of performing real time datum transformations of GNSS positions. This allows SiteVision to receive positions from a VRS or local correction source, and output them in a specified Target Reference Frame.

    This provides flexibility to work in terms of a local datum, or common global datums as needed.

    • Same as source: SiteVision will pass through positions as received by the receiver.
      • If you are using a local NTRIP source the positions will be in the same coordinate system as the local NTRIP source.
    • Auto Selection: SiteVision looks at the current position to look up the reference frame you are most likely in based on your current position.
    • User Choice (from list): Select a reference frame from the list of supported datums, and this will be the output reference frame.

    A geoid model applies a vertical transformation to account for local variations in the earth’s gravity field. There are many different geoid models ranging from global geoids such as EGM96, to regional geoids such as EIGEN-6C4, or GEOID12B.

    • If your model data is in terms of a geoid model, then an appropriate Trimble Site Calibration file will be required to ensure your data is displayed correctly. See Creating a Trimble Site Calibration file for more information.
