Performing a Device Calibration (SiteVision Integrated Positioning System only)

If you are using the SiteVision Integrated Positioning System, a device calibration is required to calibrate your device camera to work with the SiteVision hardware, for precise AR visualization and accurate EDM measurements.

The process requires aligning the cross-hairs on the screen with EDM measurements. These measurements must be performed at two different distances—the first point is at close range, and the second further away.

During the calibration process a recommended distance is displayed for each point, and the current EDM measured distance is displayed. This guides you to move the SiteVision system closer to or further away from your target until you are at the recommended distance.

If you have not undertaken a calibration prior to using the SiteVision measurement apps, then you will be prompted to run the device calibration procedure the first time you use the EDM measurement function.

The EDM uses a laser pointer that creates a red dot on the point to which it is measuring. This red dot is typically easy to see when inside, and difficult to see outside, particularly on a bright day. Trimble recommends that you complete the calibration inside where it is easier to see the laser pointer. Ideally, set the unit on a stable platform such as a table or range pole with a clear target such as a wall at a distance of 25-30 cm (10 inches), and another target such as a wall more than 4 m (12 feet) away.

  1. Mount your device on the unit, connect the USB cable, and switch the unit on.

  2. Tap / Tools/ Configuration, then next to Device Calibration tap Calibrate.

  3. You may get a request to confirm that you allow the SiteVision system to connect to the EDM via Bluetooth. If this message appears, confirm that you allow the connection.

  4. Read the instructions for Device Calibration, then tap Start.

  5. Select Point 1 at close range (approximately 25 cm / 10 inches).

    1. Use the joystick bubble to align the cross-hairs to the EDM laser (the red dot). The cross-hairs will be red initially. They will turn white when you are within the permissible tolerance of the recommended distance for the calibration measurement.

    2. Tap Select Pt 1 to confirm the measurement.

  6. Select Point 2 (> 4 m / 13 ft).

    1. Use the joystick bubble to align the cross-hairs to the EDM laser at the longer distance. The cross-hairs will turn white when the distance is > 4 m / 13 ft.

    2. Tap Select Pt 2 to confirm the measurement.
